NZEE Awards 2013 Supreme Winner – 3D microscope The Classifynder (216Kb PDF - 27 November)

The supreme winner of the New Zealand Engineering Excellence (NZEE) Awards 2013 is a 3D desk-top microscope capable of being used in forensic crime scene investigations, honey fraud and the study of our ecosystem.
The (Classifynder™) microscope was invented by a team of students and experts led by Professor Robert Hodgson at Massey University’s School of Engineering and Advanced Technology. It is the overall winner of the NZEE Awards 2013, scooping the best Practice, Project and Product category in the annual awards which represent the best leading-edge technology and engineering in New Zealand.

Carterton Events Centre nominating for national award (279Kb PDF - 26 November)
The Carterton Events Centre is up for a national engineering award, recognising the leading edge earthquake resilient technology used in the project.
Opus International Consultants led the work after coming up with an innovative seismic system that has been used only once before.

Electrospinning technology developed with the help of MBIE funding wins NZ Engineering Excellence Award

The Komodo is an industrial scale electrospinning machine, which will enable Revolution Fibres to take its state of the art nano technology from the lab to industrial scale. The company received $447,085 in research and development (R&D) funding from MBIE to develop the Komodo.

New Lynn Rail Trench and Station wins Supreme Engineering Award

The New Lynn Trench and Rail Station is the 2012 New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards (NZEEA) Supreme Award winner. Entered by Beca and the Fletcher Construction Company, the project was completed in March of 2010, and welcomed by the community.

Richard Little and Robert Irving of Rex Bionics have taken out the 2012 New Zealand Engineering Innovator of Year Award. Presented at the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards gala dinner in Auckland, the award recognises engineers who have shown an ongoing commitment to innovation.

Variable message signs win prestigious engineering award

The NZ Transport Agency, Opus International Consultants and Aspect Solutions Ltd have taken out the Information, Communication, Electronic and Electrical Technology (ICEET) category at the 2012 New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards for their world leading Milford and Knobs Flat Variable Message Signs (VMS) at Milford and Knobbs Flat.

Sir William Gallagher wins New Zealand’s most Prestigious Engineering Award

Sir William Gallagher is the 2012 winner of New Zealand’s most Prestigious Engineering Award, the William Pickering Award for Engineering Leadership. The Award recognises an engineer who has demonstrated outstanding leadership and is a role model for other engineers.

Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) have taken out the top prize in the 2012 New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards Building and Construction category for the Forsyth Barr Stadium project.

Simple Solution wins GHD and Auckland Transport Prestigious Environmental Engineering Award

GHD Limited and Auckland Transport are the winners of the 2012 Engineering Excellence Award for Excellence in Environmental Practice for their Tetra Trap design. The revolutionary Tetra trap is a simple catchpit filter which prevents the flow of road pollutants to Auckland’s waterways and harbour via the stormwater system.
