This award recognises exceptional activities associated with the development of new or
improved products, processes or services using mechanical engineering, mechatronics,
or which arise in the manufacturing sector.

Aircraft Hangar Maintenance Docks

Flexible working platforms capable of accommodating twelve different narrow body aircraft were designed and built. This has enabled a small New Zealand aircraft maintenance operation to be flexible, but still achieve comparable rates of productivity to customised larger-scale maintenance systems elsewhere in the world that use industry standard equipment and facilities.

The docks were designed and built to demanding geometric requirements and tight tolerance standards that ensure aircraft are fully protected. They incorporate advanced movement control features and inbuilt utility services thereby improving productivity whilst also providing a safe working environment. The quality of the completed installation has been recognised in aviation circles globally as a world first.
