Sustainability and Clean Technology Award 2006

Household Efficient Lighting Projects (HELP)
Energy Mad Holdings Ltd

Household Efficient Lighting Projects beat three other excellent finalists for the Sustainability and Clean Technology award, thanks to the innovation and world-leading clean technology involved.

This project developed the Ecobulb, which has overcome the performance limitations of similar bulbs. It also developed an innovative methodology for measuring the HELP project’s peak network load reduction and electricity savings.

Implemented in conjunction with energy sector partners and Foodstuffs, the eight completed projects have sold over 598,000 energy-saving Ecobulbs, to up to 65 per cent of households targeted. This is a world-leading participation rate for energy efficient lighting projects.

This project has produced a peak electricity network loading reduction of 34 megawatts, and expected electricity savings of 378 gigawatt-hours or $60 million worth of electricity over the life of the bulbs. The reduction by 234,000 tonnes of carbon emissions over the life of the bulbs shows that engineering can play a significant role in sustainability.
