DAG7.1S Network Monitoring Interface Card
Endace Ltd

Communication networks are crucial to modern economies and societies. A critical aspect of networks is their handling of communication between networks and computers. Network interface cards are an entrenched feature of the industry. However, the DAG (Data Analysis and Generation) Card 7.1S, developed by Endace Ltd provides more complex capability, aimed initially at a specific overseas client but with the potential for more general marketing. It can operate with the networks that support 2G and 3G cellular telephone systems.

The 7.1S is probably the most complex single project ever undertaken by Endace and involved most of the 35 Hamilton-based technical staff. Engineering challenges arose from the sheer complexity of the device, and the small format of the PC card on which it had to be implemented. As well as succeeding in its own right, the project provided lessons which will be carried through into subsequent projects.

The DAG 7.1S is a worthy winner because of the excellence of the work undertaken to overcome the engineering challenges, and for the product’s contribution to the future development and operation of communication networks.
