Carron Blom

"Carron Blom wowed the judges with her presentation on the Grafton Gully Project. Her wide experience in infrastructure asthestics, cleaner production, waste minimisation and stormwater management is supplemented by excellent skills in public consultation. Her passion for her work came through strongly in her lively and informative presentation."
– Dr Bas Walker, Chief Judge

Carron has lead Beca’s Environmental Management sector since its inception in 1999. She provides overall technical and business development leadership to this team, as well as acting as Job Director on projects. In these roles she has often established and overseen delivery of environmental solutions for infrastructure construction projects, many of which have won awards. She has supported the development of the engineering profession over the course of her career through a variety of contributions such as Women in Science and Engineering and Ingenuity events and Board membership of the New Zealand Water and Wastes Association. She has also contributed work on various committees and technical papers.

In her role as the Environmental Manager on the Grafton Gully project, she helped bridge the gap between engineering and the community, leading initiatives which brought the two worlds together. The judges were also impressed by Carron’s artistic flair and the tale of Archi Frog that she wrote and illustrated to describe the Grafton Gully project through the eyes of a frog to appeal to and educate children and the community as to why the project was needed.
