Beca Carter Hollings & Ferner Ltd, City Solutions – Christchurch City Council

"Attention to sustainability characterised all facets of the project, from waste minimisation and the widespread use of recycled materials in construction, through to the use of creative design for ensuring energy and water minimisation."
– Dr Bas Walker, Chief Judge

The building design and construction of the South Christchurch Library and Service Centre, engineered by Beca Carter Hollings and Ferner provides an excellent example of the application of sustainability principles and clean technology in the building industry, while still producing engineering results able to bring benefits and pleasure to the community served.

Also impressive was the integrated approach applied – for example in dealing with heating, cooling and ventilation.

The judges considered the ‘Sustainable Library’ to be a very worthy category winner.
