||Initiated in 2005, the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards are the premier awards for the engineering professionals of New Zealand. The awards categories recognise People, Projects and Products, with a Supreme Award for the best project and product. Leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and young engineers are also recognised along with the use of leading edge technology. Winners were announced at Te Papa on November 27th.
3 News: 3D microscope wins top engineering award
A digital microscope that grabbed the attention of United States border security authorities scooped the top prize at the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards last night.
The Classifynder, developed by researchers at Massey University, can analyse and classify microscopic particles without human assistance. It promises to cut down the time it takes to find the "proverbial needle in the haystack", says Jamie MacDuff, a member of the team behind it.
